I've had a quiet couple of weeks when it comes to blogging. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We have been away dogsitting and then went for a Haven holiday and then my husband had another weeks holiday from work so we've been pretty busy. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our holiday was great, gave us all a break and lots of exercise(lots of walking, play areas and swimming) and fresh air.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We have been to Eureka museum(more on that in another post), visiting a local farm, soft play, the library and a local scarecrow festival. We've been on Autumn walks and done crafting with the things we've collected.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week has been quieter, but we've baked, made playdough, learnt about colour mixing, starting learning how to takeaway and I've signed up for a reading eggs trial to see how we like it. We also broke into Sebs moneybox and he helped to count the money(over £26) and chose what he'd like to buy with it(more pieces for his traintack).</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
On Friday we're meeting a local home edding mum and her boys at soft play which I am looking forward too and I also have some more Autumn crafts lined up for the weekend.<br />
It's October now which in this Ouse means birthdays are upon us shortly followed by Christmas! Lots to look forward too!</div>

This week we went to another home edders meet. This time at The Orangery in Wakefield which is a lovely spot for anyone to visit. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had visited before for a baby rave and art sessions and thought it was the perfect place for a home edders meet especially the gorgeous gardens which currently host a fab interactive art installation called Swing it. I emailed with a lovely lady who works there(all the staff are lovely) and we arranged for a home ed meet for Heritage Day. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was so worried that the weather would be bad or that nobody would come but we had a gorgeous day and lots of people came along, in fact i ran out of activity books amd pencils to give out! Everyone seemed to have a lovely time, the children thoroughly enjoyed the swings and many stayed longer than the hour we had originally planned. </div>

I look forward to arranging another meet there soon :)</div>

On Friday Seb and I went along to our first ever home ed group.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Although Seb would still only be at preschool I want to get involved with local home ed groups now so that we can meet others and see what is going on in our area. The group was a new one set up by the lovely Diane from<a href="http://www.mamasworld.co.uk/" target="_blank"> Mamas World</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was pretty nervous beforehand, I can be quite shy and it is always daunting meeting with a group of strangers!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I shouldn't have worried, the group was very busy and full of friendly faces. I chatted to various people both new to home ed and those who are more experienced. It was lovely to find people who live very locally to us. There were children of all ages and they all mingled together which was great to see. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The group went so went that it is going to be running every other week and we will definitely be going along. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week I have arranged another meet in a different location, hopefully that goes well too! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

So yesterday was the day that most local nursery's and schools started the new academic year and of course everyone is sharing photos of their children grinning in their new uniform which I love seeing. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We celebrated not going back to nursery by heading to a local park with a picnic. Luckily it was a beautiful day and so after eating we explored the park, looking at fallen trees and finding a den before getting up close to the ducks and geese. I took lots of photos and I just love how happy and relaxed the boys look in them.</div>

Today is the day when I am able to apply for a school place for Seb to start reception in 2015. Actually according to an advert by our local council I must apply for a place(not true). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been thinking about it a lot today, it's been all over my Facebook and Twitter feed. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Should I apply just in case? Am I depriving him by not even trying school or nursery first? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been on the councils website, read the applications information and promptly clicked off of it again. We are most definitely not applying, Why would we? I want to stay under the radar for a while if possible and applying will stop that from happening. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This feels like the most rebellious thing I have ever done, it gives me a thrill, I am excited for our future, for all the fun and adventures we can have. While everyone else is buying uniform, adding name labels and setting their alarms; we can do reading in our pyjamas or head out to hunt for bugs in the woods. I know which option I prefer. </div>

I have a friend to thank for letting me know about this HE day at The Deep in Hull on September 8th.<br />
I've not been to The Deep before but we had been planning to go for Alex's birthday in October and have heard that it's a good day out with lots to see and learn.<br />

Although it may not feel like it right now, we are still in summer and yesterday we went for a nature walk. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few weeks back we received a Toucan Box containing a nature bag to decorate and cards showing things to find on nature walks in each season. We decided to use the summer card before it was too late so set off to see what we could find. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As we are lucky enough to have woods directly behind our house we explored those as well as going on an walk around the local area. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMUpXnEg8_lJdtCSBPe598vW5RQaqBi89w50txcS7AidvyqylUAqDlkQI7DpepVY4Q_GYbyvkU5vEnBXO9h0VUFm_26TDrsDJ4LR8Lh3Ov4vHW42AW3Mt6nejJgGF9dKEZ6rke_PePI0Q/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMUpXnEg8_lJdtCSBPe598vW5RQaqBi89w50txcS7AidvyqylUAqDlkQI7DpepVY4Q_GYbyvkU5vEnBXO9h0VUFm_26TDrsDJ4LR8Lh3Ov4vHW42AW3Mt6nejJgGF9dKEZ6rke_PePI0Q/s1600/image.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We did pretty well finding nearly everything on the card(even the elusive sun) as well as a few extra bits and managing to fit in a few splashes in puddles.<br />

In the afternoon while Alex napped we drew the things that we had found and labelled them. Seb even had a go at copying the words which is great as he has only recently shown an interest in writing.<br />

We had a really good chat about seasons and the order of them and what happens in each season including the weather which he is very interested in at the moment. I can't wait until we go on our Autumn hunt in a few weeks.<br />

Telling your family your plans to home educate can be daunting. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
No matter how happy you are with your decison think it's natural to be slightly anxious what others may think of your choices.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My parents have known for a while that it is something i am keen to do and i regularly talk about it with my mum in particular, she thinks that it's a great idea, and her having that faith in me is a real boost to my confidence that i can actually do this! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week Phil has told his parents. He had been putting it off but the inevitable questions about Seb and nursery coming, it was time to speak to them. I think he was worried that his parents would react negatively as lets face it, it's quite an unusual choice but in fact they were pretty interested and supportive. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course both sets of parents have the usual questions regarding socialisation, but as i have been thorough in my research, i can answer those concerns easily enough. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have read people saying many times that it's your child and your choice, which of course ultimately it is but for us support from our families are important. They are huge influences in our childrens lives and have alot of knowledge and skills that they can pass on and be part of the boys educations so i feel a huge relief that wer are lucky enough to be supported. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It feels like by telling them we have reached a pretty big milestone on our journey. </div>

I find it hard to sum up exactly why we have chosen to go down this route, as there isn't one glaring reason for us. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I have stayed at home with my children since they were born, although I appreciate this isn't for everyone(through choice or circumstance), I really enjoy spending this precious time with them and although there are stressful days, there are far more laughter filled ones. Watching them learn and question things is amazing and being a part of that is a pretty special experience. They either have my attention one on one, or one on two for however long they need it which is something that simply couldn't happen in a nursery or school environment.<br />
<br />
I personally feel that children start formal education too soon in this country. Yes reception is currently play based but this is seemingly changing what with the changes to the National Curriculum, the much opposed baseline testing when most children in the class will be just 4 years old(not even of legal school age)makes me feel very uncomfortable.<br />
<br />
I also love the flexibility we currently have, we can head out to the park or to a museum on a Tuesday afternoon if we feel like it, we can head off somewhere for a couple of nights without worrying about missing anything at nursery or fines from the school.<br />
<br />
I guess to sum it up, home education simply feels like a natural progression for our family. The plan is to be flexible, if we feel at any point that school would be a better option then so be it. From lots of reading I have found that once your child is in the system it is harder to take them out of it so we have chosen to try home education first.<br />
<br />
I would love to hear why other people have chosen(or not chosen) to home educate. Feel free to comment here or email me at theygrowsoquick @gmail.com</div>

I guess I had better introduce myself. I'm Emma and I am a stay at home mum to my 2 young sons aged 1 and 3 and we live in Yorkshire. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been blogging for quite a few years now, starting with a fashion blog and then moving on to a parenting and lifestyle blog so it seemed a natural progression for me to start this blog as a place to specifically chart our adventures in home education and I think it will be something we can look back on both to see progress and reflect on the (hopefully) amazing experiences we have.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Although my children are not yet at the age where the law says they have to be in education, my oldest is rapidly approaching 4 years old and we are the only people I know with children the same age who aren't attending a nursery or preschool yet(or due to start this term)and i am expecting the information for school applications to drop through my door in the next few weeks. We are already "different" from the norm and I want to share our adventures.<br />
<br />
There may be posts that I share on both my blogs if relevant but I aim for this blog to focus purely on home ed.<br />
<br />
